THE VET
By Connie

My fav peace bear “The Vet” is so named as his coloring reminds me of the vets of the 60’s and his permanent droop reminds of possible war injury.  He came to be with me in a rather unusual way.

The local dealer had her first Peace shipment and it all sold out – except for one- in under an hour.

Her second Peace shipment arrived & word spread through the beanie grapevine like wildfire.

Although I bombed out the door & lived only minutes away, there was along line up outside the store when I arrived on the scene .

The shop owner had sold a good bit of her second shipment but this last one from the first shipment still remained. She said it looked like it had been dropped in a puddle – the back was beautiful but there was a brown splotch on most of the front.  As well, his whole left side was understuffed, stitched oddly and as a result drooped permanently.

The dealer was frazzled & overwhelmed & announced she had put all her new peace bears away & wouldn’t sell any more beanies of any kind until someone bought “the ugly thing”!  Although there were at least a dozen people ahead of me they all concurred with the shop owner’s assessment of ugly and un-sellable.  The line remained at a stand still.

Every ready for adventure, I took my turn to view this beanie. I was a bit taken aback by his presentation, as at that time, all I had seen were the vibrant pretty Peace beanies.  I said I’d love him, was promoted to the front of the line & purchased him plus a number of other beanies.

I only remember in general terms how I came into most of my beanies but I’ll always remember how The Vet came to live with me.

Webmaster's Note:  You can see the "Vet" on the collection picture page!

IF I WERE A PEACE BEAR
By Patricia Burch
If I were a peace bear I would travel 'round the world.
I would give hugs and kisses to every boy and girl.
Giving smiles to the faces and laughter everywhere,
Sending hope to all the hearts around, because I'm a special bear.

If I were a peace bear I would roam the earth.
In the Himalayan's I would ski and Hawaii I would surf.

I would trek on an African Safari and fish in Antarctica.
I would ride an elephant in India and bound with wallabies in Australia.

I would sail the ocean in Mexico and Island hop all day long,
Backpack in Europe and yodel in Sweden such a beautiful song.

I would raft the rivers in South America and swim with the fish in Peru,
And when I was done with all of my travels I would fly right back to you.

PEACE DETECTIVE
By Verleen Wonderly
"Ah, what a quiet night." thought Peace, as he stretched his arms above his head and kicked his feet up onto the edge of the shelf. The weather had cooled off, all the biologically functioning creatures in the house were asleep, and for once, the other beanies weren't interested in partying the night away. He could just sit back, relax, and think beanie thoughts, or dream beanie dreams.

Then, just as he was shifting into a more comfy position, he heard a soft snick. "What was that?" he wondered. No sooner did he convince himself that is was just another beanie settling down for the night, than he heard it again, several times in a row. Snick, snick, snick. "What on earth?" wondered Peace the bear. This wasn't a normal night noise, and it sure didn't sound like another Ty Beanie just getting comfortable, either.

Well, being as he was the beanie that all the others looked up to, there was only one way to find out, he would have to go investigate. Peace stretched one last time and thought, "So much for my "peace"ful night!" He quickly checked his tag protector, to make sure it was securely in place, then gently shook his legs to settle his beans in properly, it wouldn't do to set off on an investigation only to lose your balance and fall over, now would it? Then, ever so quietly to avoid disturbing his fellow fuzzies, Peace climbed down from his shelf and onto the carpeted floor, making no more noise than a soft thump. Perfect, even if a human heard it, it would just sound like a cat, nothing more.

The lights were out, and there was barely any moonlight. Peace knew he would need some equipment to assist in his investigation, if he was ever to figure out what was going on, "hmmmmm....What to use?" he thought? He sure couldn't reach the lightswitch, and that might wake someone up anyway, and then what would they think? Suddenly, Peace remembered something, that female human had been looking at coins earlier, and she had left that little magnifying glass with the light on it sitting on the diningroom table. Very quietly, so as to prevent his beans from rattling, peace climbed the chair and searched in the scant light to find what he was seeking. "A-ha, here it is." he mumbled to himself. He looped the string of the magnifier around his neck, then just as slowly and quietly climbed back down to the floor.

"Hey, that's nice," he thought, "this carpet is kind of soft on the old paws!" He paused a moment to revel in the softness, before proceeding with his investigation. Once again he heard the noise, snick, snick, snick. He knew he would never get any rest until he figured out once and for all what was making that sound. He listened closely to hear it again and try to pinpoint the location. "There, that direction," he thought, as it happened again, snick, snick, snick. He followed the sound and as he neared, he pressed the button on the magnifier with his paw, to turn the light on. "Good thing she put in new batteries." he thought to himself.

As he panned the light about, he suddenly saw what was making the noise. "Oh my goodness!" he was so upset, he almost said it out loud. It was PE pellets, some poor beanie must have suffered a devastating injury. His poor "Peace"ful heart skipped a beat. He gathered his nerves, and panned the light a little further, well that explained that, it was one of those silly cats, up late and batting the beans towards the shelf. Oh no, the cat had just spotted his light and wanted to play, Peace knew he was in trouble if he didn't move fast. In only his worst nightmares had he imagined what a cat's claws and teeth could do to a beanie who wasn't careful, and he sure didn't want his fears confirmed. Peace ran to the edge of the shelf and hurriedly began pulling himself back up, out of reach of the dreaded feline. He was breathing hard, but he made it, he got out of reach, just in time.

He was still desperate to know, however, which of his fellow beanies was so tragically injured. Thank goodness he had the string from the magnifier around his neck so he hadn't dropped it on his wild flight from that silly cat. He cautiously depressed the button for the light, and used its rays to examine his fellow beanies. "Well, they all seem okay!" he thought, "I don't see any holes or loose threads!" He knew he would have to look around the diningroom some more, but decided that this time, he would do it from the safety of his shelf. He panned the light towards the floor, and there, over in the corner, he found the culprit, it was the dog, she was sleeping with a small beanie in her paws. As he glance at the gory aftermath of her play, he realized she had chewed the nose off, allowing the beans to escape, which is how the cat had gotten hold of such great play toys. He cringed inwardly as he pondered the tragedy, then as he leaned out a little further from his shelf, for a better look, "Praise be to beans!" it wasn't a Ty, but one of the assorted toys the humans had bought just for the animals to play with. "WOW!" Peace thought, he was so relieved. His friends were all fine.

Just then, the cat spotted his light again. "Oh  no, he were go again!" thought Peace. He quickly backed up further onto his shelf, and extinguished the light, as the cat tried to reach him, knocking books to the floor from the lower shelves. As Peace began to get comfy again, he heard one of the humans stirring, "Just in time he thought." as he settled down and laid the magnifier beside him on the shelf. Sure enough, the female human walked into the room to see what the noise was, seeing the cat and books strewn on the floor, she grumbled about trying to sleep, gathered the cat in her arms, and headed back to bed.

As he slowly drifted off to sleep, Peace found himself thankful that he, and his fellow Ty Beanies were always out of reach of the dog, on high, safe shelves. In the morning, when the female human awoke, and was just sipping her first cup of coffee, she stopped to pick the books up from the floor, grumbling under her breath about silly, nocturnal cats, as she stood back up, she saw the magnifier on the shelf beside Peace. "Hmmmmmm..." she said to herself, "I don't remember leaving that there, oh well, wish I wasn't so forgetful." She glanced at Peace, and called to the male human as she walked away, sipping her coffee, "You know honey, that is just one of the things I love about my Peace Bear, if I look at him from this angle, he looks like he is smiling!"

PEACE AROUND THE WORLD
By Clarissa Pyle
Peace around the world
What a wonderful sound
No more wars to go around

I got my first peace bear at a TY shop here in town but my favorite peace bear came in the mail a few months ago from WFI what a cute bear for freedom in our world. It is a fourth gen hang tag all TY INC in caps. Beautiful colors complete with his dog tags to his camo bag and pins. He now stands proud and tall displayed on my shelf. I will always cherish this bear from now on through my life. Peace and freedom for all.

Daydream Believer
Jeanne Patterson
I was walking in a multicolored haze with images of the late sixties flashing through my mind.  Images of the scooby-doo van...hip hugger jeans...funny smells floating through the air...lots of lost, but friendly people with matching multicolored shirts...and sounds of the Doors drifting in the night.  I trip (no pun intended) on a rather soft looking lump in the grass. The clear night sky and just enough moon light allowed me to see two little black eyes looking up at me. "Oh, how beautiful this is"; a bear with such a peaceful face and a fantastic coat of colors.  I reach for it...

"Give it back, give it back!"  A voice awakens me. I open my eyes to find my little girl tugging and pulling at the Ty Peace bear that I too, was clutching.  "Mommy, you were asleep!"  We laughed, realizing I had drifted off on our picnic blanket laying in the tall grass.

Another peaceful summer day with all the things I love.

A Fable of Peace
By Kim
Long, long ago, on the island of Tyland, lived the
Great Governor of the Gardens of Garcia, the
grandfather of all Garcia bears.  His palace was a
palette of living color, and his vibrant valor shone
throughout his kaleidoscopic kingdom.  All the colors
of the earth and sky lived together in their painted
paradise, until one day, a beastly bear as black and
white and colorless as the arctic night invaded the
island.  On a mission to mute their motley world, the
evil Princess Peking of Pandora poured out her plague
and spread its sinister sorrow over Garcia’s Gardens.

The Great Garcia summoned his soldiers and sent them
into the darkening doom to fight the disease that
loomed upon their lives.  Through the night, they
battled their burden and drove the Plague of Black and
White out of their land and into the recesses of the
deep.  Once again, the rainbow of radiance glowed
throughout the Gardens, and Garcia the Great, retiring
from his reign, ordained his valiant soldiers as Lords
of the Land.  He crowned them with colors as vibrant
as his own, and sealing their breastplates with his
Sign, he named them Princes of Peace.

The End.
