| I got my first Peace bear from my grandmother in 1997, when I only had a few Beanies. At that time, I had no idea how Beanie Babies were affecting the world around me. I didn't care about the high value of Beanies, or even if they were retired or current. My Beanies Babies were my toys, and spent more time on my floor or my bed than the small shelves my dad had set up for me. Needless to say, it didn't talk long for my Peace bear to take on that well-loved look and lose his hang tag. As the years went by, I began to find that Beanie Babies could be found almost anywhere, due to their popularity. My Ty collection began to gain independence from waiting to see Grandma again to get the newest Beanie. In December 2003, I decided that I wanted a mint Beanie to represent the Peace Bear in my collection, and found a cheep $2 Peace bear on Ebay.com. I immediately fell in love with the soft, ty-dyed bear. Just a few days later, I recieved a package from my Secret Santa from the aboutBeanies.com message board gift exchange. Inside I f?ound two more Peace bears (one of them can be seen with my cat) from someone who knew that I was taking an interest to what many Ty collectors already had: collecting Peace bears. Now aware that many people had the same love for Peace bears that I had, I began to work on a new Web site called Peace Mania. In a couple short weeks, I had finished about ten pages of Peace bear information, much of it not very in-depth. On January 1, 2004, I officially "opened" the site, with advertising help from popular Beanie sites like BeanWatcher.com, who has been a great help to Peace Mania many times. In addition to collecting Beanies, I also write weekly columns for the local paper, design other Web sites, play trombone and sing in choir. I hope you enjoy this Web site, and learn something from it! -David Vogel, 15 < Back |
